(February 2, 1931 – March 19, 1997) (best known as Purnendu Pataree; Pseudonym, Samudagupta) is a prominent Indian Bengali poet, novelist, essayist, child artiste, literary researcher, Calcutta researcher, film director and cover artist. Purnendu is born in Nakole, now in Howrah district of West Bengal. Father Pulin Bihari Pantri, Mother Nirmala Devi After passing matriculation examination, due to family feud, he left the paternal house in Calcutta. He was admitted to the Indian Art College in 1949 as a student of commercial arts or arts. Although it is not possible for him to finish this course for various reasons. After coming to contact with the prominent communist leader of Bagan, Amal Ganguly, he was involved in the cultural activities of the Communist Party. His paintings and writings were started in Calcutta by the guardian uncle Nakunjibihari, the magazine of the film Paintings and Literature Dipali.When the Communist Party became an active member at the beginning of the fifties, both political and literary arts were working together. In 1951, his first poetic book Ekmutha Rode was published. The first novel published in the year 1958 has won the Manna Manik Award. His other poems are the words of the words (1975), Surajroday Tum Aale (1976), Our Tumul Hoi-Hola (1980) and Deep Night Trunkclock (1981), I am Kuch I am the goddess, etc. Literary researcher Shishir Kumar Das commented on his poetry, the technique of rhythm, the clarity of the formation of idols, and the domestic roles of dialogue are the main features of his poetry. Among the other novels of Purnendu, Vomiraguri, Malatiamangal etc. are notable. Two famous poets of Ruposhi Bangla were one of his famous books. Purnendu Panthi wrote about a dozen books about Calcutta.

For the overall literary work, the West Bengal Government awarded him Vidyasagar Puraskar. His first movie was released in 1965 on the story of Premendra Mitra. After this, he directed five films, including wife’s letter and Malancha, on the basis of Rabindranath’s story. There are also seven documentary films. The wife’s letter received the award for Best Film and Best Director of Tashkent Film Festival. His tired Tumsuk film, which was based on Samaresh Basu’s story in 1974, also received many national and international awards.In addition to literary and painting, Purnendu Panti is one of the most recognizable cover artists. He painted the cover of hundreds of classical books of Bangla literature.His imprinted paintings claim to be special and unique in nature.
